Basel, Switzerland, 1908 - Berne, Switzerland, 1982 Meier studied at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Basel and the Academies of Art in Berlin and Dresden. He was inspired by expressionist works of French painter Paul Gauguin, and German artists Emil Nolde and Max Pechstein. Meier went to the South Pacific during the 1930s in search of a paradise to paint; he eventually came to Bali and lived there from 1936 to 1957. He participated in the “Bali Exhibition” organized by the Bataviasche Kunstkring in Jakarta in 1939. In 1957 he settled in Chiang Mai, Thailand. | |
