Sutjipto Adi Tjitrosampoerno

b. Jember, E. Java, Indonesia, 1957.

He studied at the Indonesian Fine Art High school and continued his studies at the Indonesian Fine Art Academy (ASRI), Yogyakarta from 1977-1981. He creates his works using photographs which he restructures in geometric shapes as to construct a cosmic impression. Almost all of his works take their themes from children, spiritual figures or religious symbols. Exhibitions include: Asean Young Artist Now (Hong Kong, 1980), Biennale Seni Lukis IV (Jakarta, 1987), Realistic Images as Idiom (National Gallery, Jakarta, 1995), The Mutation: Painstaking Realism in Indonesian Art (Tokyo, 1997). In 2001, Sutjipto Adi held a one-man show at the ArtFolio Gallery, Singapore.
