Al Hirschfeld (1903 – 2003)

Born in St. Louis in The United States on June 21, 1903, Albert Hirschfeld received his art training at the Art Students League of New York. In 1924, he was introduced to Miguel Covarubias and they went on to rent a studio that they shared. Later he traveled to Paris and London where he studied painting, drawing and sculpture. Returning to the United States, he joined the "New York Hearld Tribune" and became one of the most important figures in the contemporary caricature in the United States.

Hirschfeld has numerous impotant exhibitions in the US. He is represented in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. Aged 99, he died in New York on January 20, 2003.
