| Ha Dong, Vietnam, 1920 - Hanoi, Vietnam, 1988. Graduated from the Ecole Superieure des Beaux-Arts d’Indochine, Painting Department, in 1946. Phai took part in the August 1954 Revolution in Hanoi, then joined the Anti-French resistance war in Viet Bac in 1946. Returned to Haoni in 1950 due to poor health, and there wrote articles and made illustrations for newspapers. In 1984, he held his first and only one-man exhiibition in his lifetime. After his death, and up till 1994, many exhibitions of Phai were held both in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh city. Among the awards won are Prize at the 1946 and 1980 National Fine Arts Exhibitions, medal at Leipzig Graphic Arts Exhibition, and in 1996, Ho Chi Minh Award according to Decision no. 99/KT-CTN on October 9, 1996, signed by the President of the Social Republic of Vietnam. Phai’s works can be found in the Fine Arts Museum of Vietnam and his collectors are found in Russia, Poland, Germany, The Netherlands, Belgium, Sweden, Japan, Cuba and France. |
