Mexico, 1904 - 1957. During his first trip to Bali in 1930 under a Gughenheim Fellowship, he gathered materials for his Island of Bali which was published in 1937 and remains a classic to this day. He then became a good friend of Walter Spies. He was an international traveller and his works were reknown in the United States through magazine illustrations. He was also a professor of art history in the National School of Anthropology in Mexico City. |
