| b. Gianyar, Bali, Indonesia, 1973 The artist left studies before graduating from the Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI), Yogyakarta. Awards achieved include the prizes for Best Painting Dies Natalis ISI, Yogyakarta in 1997. He has participated in group exhibitions in the Netherlands, Germany, Australia, and throughout Indonesia. One of the most sought after contemporary artists in Indonesia, Masriadi paints in a distinctive style that is instantaneously recognizable with the comic, swollen protagonists in vibrant hues as a form of social commentary. The artist is interested in the ironic situation of the society and is particularly poignant with his view on the displacement of tradition in face of the modernization process in Indonesia. |
