| Zhou Chunya attended the Sichuan Academy of Fine Arts in 1977. In the 1980s, Zhou spent a few years in Germany and graduated with a Masters degree from the Gesamthochschule in Kassel. It was at this time that Zhou's style began to move towards a more metaphysical approach that incorporated Fauvist and Neo-Expressionistic elements. Zhou has participated in exhibitions throughout the world, including the First Shanghai Biennale at the Shanghai Art Museum in 1996, Quotation Marks at the Singapore Art Museum in 1998, Zhou Chunya Exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Italy 2002, Alors La Chine at the Paris Pompidou Center in 2003 and Dreaming of the Dragon's Nation - Contemporary Art from China at the Irish Museum of Modern Art in 2004 - 2005. |
