Murni's frank exploration of sensuality and sexuality, often articulated through exuberant colours and seemingly playful imagery, is deeply connected to her personal history. Having experienced sexual violence and other forms of gendered hardship, she developed a visual vocabulary through which the body became a site of memory, vulnerability and confrontation. Her vibrant palette does not merely convey pleasure or optimism; it creates a striking counterpoint to the emotional complexities beneath the surface. The apparent playfulness of her imagery often carries an undercurrent of pain, anger and defiance.
For Murni, the female body was never a neutral subject. It embodied personal memories and exposed the structures of power through which women are objectified, controlled and rendered vulnerable. Her unrestrained representation of sexuality and the body thus becomes an assertion of agency and a challenge to patriarchal authority.
The title Hati Yang Bahagia lends the composition an especially compelling dimension. Set against the complexity of Murni's lived experience, the suggestion of a happy heart invites a more nuanced reading of happiness—not simply as an absence of pain, but perhaps as an expression of freedom, self-assertion and the courage to reclaim one's own body. In this tension between exuberance and vulnerability lies the enduring power of Murni's artistic vision.
